I wanted to share some photos of my Detroit home garden. I’m a professional photographer, so I happen to have some photos of the garden at one of its peaks this summer.
I love the lavender plants (Lavandula × intermedia, Zones 5–9) along this front walk and can imagine them releasing their fragrance as you walk past.
Planters at the door: nasturtiums (Tropaeolum majus, annual) up top, and an urn of white bacopa (Sutera cordata, annual) contrasting with dark sweet potato vine (Ipomoea batatas, Zones 10–11 or as an annual) on the step.
White yarrow (Achillea millefolium, Zones 3–9) is in peak bloom.

The numerous small flowers of pink yarrow are beautiful and much loved by pollinators and many beneficial insects.
A lusciously dark red rose glows against the rich greens around it.
The cottage-style plantings complement the historic brick of the house wonderfully.
Stepping-stones lead through to the side yard.
